Greg Madrigal, a U.S. Army veteran, has been in the custom woodworking businesses for nearly 30 years and is an extremely passionate catch & release fly fisherman. He "field tests" his own collection of custom fly fishing nets whenever, and wherever possible. Each custom fly fishing net is created using traditional methods except for one. We professionally stabilize most handles to create a hard-wearing, water resistant handle. We make your net, using a variety of hand and power tools and plenty of elbow grease, right here in the United States of America. We ocassionally donate product to support Project Healing Waters, Casting for Recovery, and other non-profits like TU.
Sierra Nets uses only the finest hardwoods available including many locally harvested urban hardwoods, and rescued or recycled wood, as well as exotic wood species. Sometimes, we may be able to add personal touches like hand carved and inlaid monograms, full names, nick names, or a favorite fly, fish, or bible verse. Inlay materials we stock are copper, brass, pewter, black stone, azurite, malachite, fire coral, bronze, chrysocolla, Kingman turquoise, and aluminum.
Some of the woods we stock are: Salvaged Genuine Mahogany, Figured Claro Walnut, Pacific Big Leaf Maple, Spalted Maple, Claro & Black Walnut, Wenge, Maple, Maple Burl, Bird’s Eye Maple, Quilted Maple, Curly Maple, Spanish Cedar, Cherry, Bloodwood, Cocobolo, buckeye burl, Mahogany, African Mahogany, Carolina Cherry Burl, White Oak, Padauk, Canary Wood, Douglas Fir, Teak, Black Oak, and Black Acacia.
