Last Chance

The hundreds of Maple Burl eyes on this net handle instill a level of luxury reserved for the world's finest luxury cars. Burl is a deformation of the trees normal lineal grain structure, not unlike a cancer, which causes amazing patterns. The downside is that this grain structure is not conducive to a strong handle. Therefore, this handle was reinforced with a center structure of Maple. The Maple Burl was vacuum stabilized using a heat-cured acrylic resin. Many Wenge and Curly Maple layers create a thin, yet strong hoop. This catch and release style net was commissioned by an avid fly fisher who is also an East Coast Ship Pilot. The name of the net is derived from the inlaid brass fly on the handle's face. It is one of the client's favorite flies, the Last Chance Cripple.
